Manufacturing of hydrogels from never-dried microcrystalline cellulose by high-pressure mechanical treatment

Microcrystalline cellulose-based hydrogels were made using never-dried MCC (AaltoCellTM) as a raw material for high-pressure mechanical treatment consisting of one to five passes at 700 bars. The effects the on crystalline structure, morphology, geometrical dimensions, and specific surface area well rheological properties manufactured cellulose gel product investigated. results indicated that process detached part cellulose, resulting in loose particle architecture, increased porosity, thus more accessible reactive material. Due creation new internal hydrogen bonds formed between particles, consequently creating stable hydrogel-like slurries. produced greatly influenced by number through equipment. Several stronger capable retaining water.
